I use both and would struggle to choose between them. Both are great. I like to have the benefit of both, because I often look for a guesthouse when I get off a bus and the two together give me a better choice. But either would give you the same excellent advice on all areas of the country.

I agree with you Chico, won't win many fans from the road, but once you are on the beach, especially at the end, it is a completely different picture. And who could not fail to be charmed by the turtles swimming almost up to the shore at the reef sheltered beach nearer to Hikkaduwa town? I can understand why some people might need convincing at first glance, but Hikkaduwa does have an appeal and it offers a variety of things to suit a lot of different people. Not many resorts can boast both excellent surfing and calm swimming within a ten minute walk of eachother and it's a great place for finding a cheap, cheerful guesthouse, proving there is still a resort for the budget minded traveller.
